Signboards

In the olden days, cylindrical chochin (paper lanterns) were used for decorating omikoshi (portable shrines) and wedding ceremonies, while large-sized ones were used for dedications to shrines and temples. They’re the perfect kind for signboards of shops because of their shape which makes it possible to convey the images and characters written straight to the viewers.
