Mito is one of the three major production areas along with Gifu and Yame (Fukuoka). Suifu-Lantern is the most typical of lanterns produced in Mito.
　Compared to the popular techniques such as spiraling up thin bamboo sticks and fixing the outer shape, Suifu-Lantern requires the unique skill of making many circles with thin bamboo sticks, lining up and attaching the circles. This is what makes Suifu-Lanterns strong and highly practical.
